Two heads they say is better than one.

When it comes to business partnerships, can we then say it is the pathway to success or the downfall of your business?

Inasmuch as having a business partner might sound like a good idea, it can be quite challenging. Life itself can be challenging, how we handle it is what matters.

In this post we’d be talking about the advantages and disadvantages of running a business partnership; the important things you should look out for.

DO:

COMMUNICATE

Running a business with a partner requires a lot of communication in order to avoid keeping each other in the dark.

Make business plans and strategize together.

What connects you here is the business which you both share.

SET COMPANY AND INDIVIDUAL GOALS

The best way to approach goals is to first start with setting goals for your company and then creating individual goals.

Whatever individual goals you set should support what you both have for the company, especially for future purpose and reference.

DEFINE JOB ROLES FOR EACH PERSON

You and your partner need to have job roles assigned to each other, each person should be responsible and held accountable for their tasks.

Lack of clarity when it comes to taking up tasks is the cause of frustration and disagreements in a lot of business partnerships.

DON’T:

DON’T CHOOSE SOMEONE YOU DON’T CONNECT WITH

When choosing a business partner, make sure you choose carefully. Is the person someone you easily connect with? Do you share the same goals and values?

It is important that you run your business with someone you’re comfortable with; that’s why you need to build a relationship (if you’re just meeting the person) before pitching a business partnership idea with them.

DON’T ACCEPT MONEY WITHOUT KNOWING IF IT’S A LOAN OR CONTRIBUTION

It’s better to be safe than sorry!

For the sake of future occurrences, be sure to know where the money is coming from.

And lastly,

Don’t let out any information, benefits, resources etc that’d make your marketing statement unique until you’re definitely sure that the information would be used by you or your partner.

Are you thinking of going into a business partnership? Or are you having issues with your current business partnership?
